Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets suffered an unlucky defeat to Group B opponents Morocco in their second game at the U17 AFCON in Algeria with Tochukwu Joseph Ogboji’s second-minute own goal enough to decide the tie at the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui on Wednesday.

The Golden Eaglets rallied after going behind so early, but despite dominating the encounter with 27 shots and 64 per cent of the possession, Nduka Ugbade’s side found the North Africans who had a paltry three shots in the game, an impossible puzzle to solve.

Morocco maintain their hold at the summit of Group B with the win, and the North Africans join Senegal as the second team to book a place in the knock-out stage of the tournament, both sides having secured maximum points from their two matches.

Nigeria, meanwhile, must now defeat South Africa in their final group game on Sunday to ensure a place in the quarterfinals.

It wasn’t all bad news for the Golden Eaglets, however, as Yahaya Lawali picked up the MVP gong, making it back-to-back MVP awards for the young defender after the first one against Zambia.
