Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has declared the defending champions’ readiness to face the Lionesses of Cameroon on Thursday at the quarter-final stage of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Kanu who opened her account in her first start at the tournament
with two goals in Nigeria’s 4-0 anihilation of Burundi to book a date with the Cameroonians, spoke confidently on how the Falcons have improved on their performances since their last defeat in the hands of South Africa in Group C opening game.
The African champions have since scored a total of six goals against Botswana and Burundi without conceding any.
“Judging from our training and previous games, we are improving and ready for any team. ” she said the Mexico based striker of Liga MX Femenil club Tigres UANL.
Many have raise questions mark on the tactics of American coach Randy Waldrum about his system of play after the Falcons appeared to have lost their fear-factor in recent times.
Kanu however, was convinced the Super Falcons are hitting their heights and would no longer stoop low for Cameroon in Casablanca.
The 2016 hosts are yet to lose a match having played two draws and a 2-0 victory over Tunisia.
Apart from a semi-final placement, a bigger pie on offer for any team that makes it to the last four is the ticket to the 2023 World Cup in Australia.
“We know others are improving as well but we are ready to match up with any team that comes our way. It’s going to be a tough game against Cameroon but we are ready to face them.”
Nigeria and Cameroon have met on two occasions incidentally at the Nations Cup with Super Falcons recording a win and a draw in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
