Bottom placed MFM FC put up a remarkable show by coming from behind to beat Enyimba 2-1 in a Matchday 34 fixture of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League season at the Otunba Dipo Dina stadium in Ijebu Ode on Sunday.

Striker Victor Mbaoma gave the People’s Elephant the lead in the 52nd minute before Oladayo Alabi equalised from the penalty spot in the 64th minute while Nduka David scored the winning goal in the 75th minute.

In an interview with Sportsville after the game, head coach of the Olukoya Boys Festus Allen, said his team watched Enyimba’s approached to the game in the first half before going more offensive formation in the second 45 minutes.

” I told my boys not to be too offensive in the first half minding the quality and experience of the team we were up against Enyimba; we conceded early in the second half and changed to a more offensive formation playing 4-3-3 as against 4-1-2-3 in the first half.”

” The last four games are crucial for our survival and my boys are aware we need to secure six points on the road and win our remaining home games to avoid the drop says Fetus Allen.

Enyimba’s gaffer Findi George who just returned to the team after some weeks out on international duties with the Super Eagles told Sportsville that his players failed in their defensive responsibilities hence their defeat to MFM.

” We didn’t do much to defend our lead after we scored early in the second half, my players were slow in covering down their strikers, the penalty we conceded gave them the momentum and they took the advantage to fight for a second goal.” He admitted.

” The target for Enyimba is to make the continent every season if we are unable to win the league, so our last four games are crucial to us achieving said objectives says the former super eagles winger Finidi George.

The defeat leaves the Peoples Elephant in 6th placed on the log with 51 points from 34 games.

Despite the massive win, MFM remain rooted to the bottom of the NPFL table with 36 points from 34 games and would require to get more victories to stand the chance of beating the drop.
