A goal in the 56th minute by Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon  in the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations ensured Nigeria’s flag will once again, be hoisted at the Women’s World Cup.
Aside the semi-final ticket, CAF in it’s new format at the WAFCON, embedded  the World Cup ticket as a way of raising the stakes and profile of the tournament.
The win over their fierce neighbours mean the defending champions will stay longer in Morocco for the semi-final  on Monday and continue their quest to add another title on the Nigeria Football Federation shelf in Abuja.
Both sides’ history in the tournament which began in 1998 when the first edition was hosted in Ogun state, added some colours to the grudge match with the Cameroonians angling for a payback against their old nemesis.
Nigeria have now joined Morocco, Senegal and Zambia as the first three to confirm their places at next year’s tournament which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The victory over their Cameroonian rivals mean the Super Falcons have never missed the World Cup train since  it commenced in 1991 in China.
They have gone ahead to participate in the 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019 editions.
Head Coach Randy Waldrum will be delighted and would heave some sigh of relief having completed one of the main tasks for the team; picking a World Cup ticket and winning a tenth title.
